Ranger/FreeRider Street: Lights not working

WARNING!

If You don’t have suffcient mechanical knowledge, experience and proper tools, we strongly recommend, that You have these operations done by Your selling dealer or at Your local motorcycle service center! Making mistake during the disassembly or assembly of the electric system will void the warranty and may cause a hazardous situation, resulting in fire, severe injury or death and damage to property.
For safety reasons it is strongly recommended to leave the battery discharged before handling any component of the motorcycle's electrical system!
Do not let the battery to stay fully discharged for longer than neccessary, as it may have a negative impact on its capacity. Charge the battery after each ride.

There are 3 types of voltage convertes, used in KUBERG motorcycles, that transform the nominal voltage of 48 V down to 12 V to be used in lighting:

silver converter KUBERG for FreeRider Street US
silver converter KUBERG for Ranger Light Kit

If the lighting (with turn indicators and horn in FreeRider Street) stops working all at once, the first place to look at is a voltage converter, which is located behind the front light. In order for the lights to lit, the kill switch must be ON as well as the main converter switch at the same time. Ranger has this main converter switch located behind the front light, just by the converter, while FreeRider Street EU and US have this switch inside the switch box.

Follow these steps to check the voltage converter function:

Required tools:

multimeter

Make sure, that the magnetic kill switch is in OFF position (magnet NOT attached) and the battery state of charge is very low.
Place the motorcycle on a solid and level surface of a mounting stand, so that both wheels are on the ground.
Loosen the 2 upper rubber belts on the headlight from the front fork.
(Only for Ranger/FreeRider Street US): Check, whether there are no disconnected cables from the converter to the main switch. If so, plug them back in their place - red beside red and black beside black.
(Only for Ranger/FreeRider Street US): If the lights still do NOT work, use a multimeter and measure DC voltage between red and black connector on the battery connectors and on the input converter connectors. The correct function is:
Magnetic kill switch OFF + headlight switch OFF = no voltage on battery connectors + no voltage on input converter connectors
Magnetic kill switch OFF + headlight switch ON = no voltage on battery connectors + no voltage on input converter connectors
Magnetic kill switch ON + headlight switch OFF = 39 - 54 V on battery connectors + no voltage on input converter connectors
Magnetic kill switch ON + headlight switch ON = 39 - 54 V on battery connectors + 39 - 54 V on input converter connectors + 12 V on output converter connectors

Measured input voltage depends on the state of charge of the battery.
(Only for FreeRider Street EU): Check, whether there are no disconnected cables from the converter to the main switch box. If so, plug them back in their place (they are labeled).
(Only for FreeRider Street EU): If the lights still do NOT work, use a multimeter and measure DC voltage between positive and negative cables directly on the controller. The correct function is:
Magnetic kill switch OFF + switch box OFF = no voltage on the input connectors + no voltage on the output connectors
Magnetic kill switch OFF + switch box ON = no voltage on the input connectors + no voltage on the output connectors
Magnetic kill switch ON + switch box OFF = no voltage on the input connectors + no voltage on the output connectors
Magnetic kill switch ON + switch box ON = 39 - 54 V on the input connectors + 12 V on the output connectors

Measured input voltage depends on the state of charge of the battery.
If there's no voltage in state, when You should be able to measure it, the converter is probably faulty and will need a replacement.
